Customer Rating: Summary: Review from a tile setter Comment: Being a commercial contractor I put most of the tools I use to a seroius test. I am very impresed with the initial use of this tool. Granted, any tool tells its tale over time but my crew and I cut over 300 linear feet of 1/2 inch hardibacker today without a single problem. I.m not in the siding business so I can't speak for them. However, If you're a tile setter and hate using saws, grinders, or whatever to cut material I would recommend this. I especialy like that you can shave a close 1/8 inch at the work area without any dust if you need to. The picture they give you with a cordless drill is cheesy. I would use a good 1/2 inch plug in drill or an 18 volt DeWalt (my cordless of choice) for best results. We have 66 more showers to do. I plan to burn out this thing out before the job is done. If it makes 1500 linear feet of 1/2 inch hardibacker I'll update with the results.
Customer Rating: Summary: "It Does What It Says" Comment: I'm one of the few remaining "old school" setters that likes to use cement board in leu of polyiso or Ditra. Especially for shower enclosure wall and ceiling applications. It has always been a major pain to cut to size 1/2" Hardibacker, but these shears definately take the sting out of the task. They really do work!! I gave them a 4 star only because they don't make tight radius cuts so well. You can do it if you work very slow and controlled but they chew up the edge of the board pretty bad. Overall though they are a great addition to my grip.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great tool for the job Comment: The Turbo Shear attaches quickly and easily and does a very good job at cutting fiber cement siding. I've seen some other reviews stating that they cut 1/2", I do not think this tool is intended to cut that thick of board.
The main draw back as stated by others is that you cannot cut a very sharp arch. Also this tool does create SOME dust, but it is very slight and falls to the ground - not into a dust storm as with a saw. The other slight con is that it can tear the corner on the exit of a cut. But this also has to do with the way the board is held while cutting. If you are cutting solo expect to have something to firmly secure the end you are cutting off. Fiber Cement planks are heavy and quite flimsy when laying flat. Another tip is cut with the back of the board facing up, comes out cleaner.
Customer Rating: Summary: Malco hardiplank shear Comment: It is a fantastic cutter. I love it, does what it is supposed to do and that is cut Hardi with no dust.
Customer Rating: Summary: perfect tool Comment: If you are cutting hardi siding this a great tool. Cuts fast and there is no dust. The only drawback is it won't cut tight arcs or circles
